by

A series of bilateral contacts with the state leadership of the country, as well as with its counterpart, had Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias during his first visit to Bahrain.

The contacts focused on the strengthening of bilateral relations, in the context of the deepening of Greece’s ties with all the countries in the region that embrace our values and principles, according to diplomatic sources.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Political Consultation was signed, which will allow the continuation and strengthening of these contacts, they point out.

In this context, they note that Bahrain, an island country, has adopted and promoted positions similar to those of Greece in terms of the rights of islands in maritime zones, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and has resolved bilateral issues with Qatar through an appeal to the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Furthermore, they state that the visit was also an opportunity for exchange of views and strengthening of the bilateral cooperation in matters of International Law between the Legal Services of the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

At the same time, they point out that Bahrain has strongly condemned the Turkish-Libyan “memorandum”, as well as the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque.

In addition, they hold that Bahrain played a key role in concluding the Abrahamic Agreements, which allowed for rapprochement between Israel and the Arab states, a Greek-backed agreement that builds bridges of cooperation and friendship with both Israel and the Arab world.

Finally, the Foreign Minister participated in the “Manama Dialogue” Conference, which is the largest Security Conference in the region. In this context, they note that the Conference was attended by the US Secretary of Defense, a significant number of Arab Foreign Ministers, as well as Israel’s National Security Adviser. They emphasize, in fact, that Nikos Dendias was the only European minister who participated, something that did not go unnoticed by the participants, who appreciated the opening of Greece in the region.
