Dustin Johnson’s agents say the top two champions have decided to enter the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitation Series “in the best interest of their family.”

Johnson, 37, announced Tuesday that he will go on a breakaway tour ahead of his first event at the Centurion Club in St Albans from June 9-11.

This revelation marks a major turning point for Americans embarking on the PGA Tour in February.

The 13th and 24th PGA Tour winner in the world, Johnson leads the first ever LIV golf tournament. The tournament has around $20 million in wallets and more than 33 million winners.

Johnson’s agent, David Winkle, told golf writer Jason Voorhees: In the end, she decided that pursuing him was in her and her family’s best interest.

“Dustin has had no problems on the PGA Tour and is grateful for all he has given, but in the end it was very convincing for him to give up.”

Strongly associated with the Separatist series, six-time winner Phil Mickelson is not on the list and is playing at Hertfordshire, but could feature in the remaining sixth place. ..

LIV Golf’s first event pits the Canadian Open on the PGA Tour. It has already turned down the request of players who want to participate in the Rebel Tour and warns that participating stars will be permanently banned.

Last month, LIV Golf leader Greg Norman criticized the PGA Tour’s position and was excited about the opening of the new series.

He states: “Free agent has finally come to golf.

“This is an opportunity to start a movement that will change history by introducing a new and open competition for the sport we all love.

“Players’ desire to participate in LIV Golf underscores their strong belief in our models and their confidence in what we are building for the future.”

LIV Golf plans seven more tournaments in the US and Asia later this year.
