Jamie Carragher has defended Gareth Southgate after England lost 4-0 to Hungary in the UEFA Nations League and has responded to fans demanding his release.
The Three Lions were just 16 minutes behind Molinux on Tuesday night and scored three more goals late in the second half, but John Stones was also controversial.
As the full-time whistle blew, supporters chased after the British player, telling Southgate: “I don’t know what you’re doing” and “I’ve been sacked in the morning”.
Carragher was annoyed by the England manager’s reaction to calling the criticism “clowns” and is convinced the result of this summer’s Nations League is simply a disaster.
“Silence the clown,” Karaha wrote in response to the anthem. “This coach has led the country to the top of two tournaments since 1966.”
He continued. “The idea that Southgate have this group is nonsense. This team is second to none in 2004/06 or 1996/98.
“Southgate had a good draw but lost. Relax everyone and get back to normal.”
They have not won four games in a row and suffered their worst home defeat in 94 years, but captain Harry Kane says he will not answer questions or panic about Southgate’s future.
Regarding the BBC Radio 5 Live post-match, he said: “This is a really heartbreaking question. Remember where we come from.
Garrett has played a key role in transforming England into one of the most successful teams of the last 50 years.
“I think it’s frustrating for the fans. It was a frustrating camp. Sometimes football surprised us. We have to see the big picture.”
“This is the first low point I’ve experienced in the last five years and it’s a really frustrating night. I really want to win these games, but it wasn’t our night. Calm down. You need to learn from that.
Two major tournaments were held in succession. I don’t have time to panic. This is a disappointing loss for us, but we must know that we are working calmly.
