Opinion – Juca Kfouri: Here comes Flamengo trampling

by

It will be a lot of fun if Flamengo loses this Sunday morning (4) to Ceará, at Maracanã.

Fun for those who don’t support the red-black, it’s obvious, and as unlikely as snowing in Fortaleza.

Dorival Júnior’s meek manner put out the bonfire of vanities in Gávea, and the team returned to work like a machine, sometimes brilliantly, sometimes to the extent that the insane calendar allows, but always with good results.

Against Vozão, Flamengo will seek the tenth match without defeat, the ninth victory.

That’s right!

There are nine games with eight wins and one draw, 20 goals scored, only two conceded.

And in that account, there are three games with team B, even against Palmeiras, in the only draw, 1 to 1, in the green house, for the Brazilian Championship.

It’s impressive and, for opponents, terrifying.

Against Ceará, Flamengo will not need to save as much as it would if the advantage over Vélez Sarsfield was not four goals.

In addition, the starting defense duo, David Luiz and Léo Pereira, is suspended and will not be able to face the Argentines in the return game. Gabigol and Thiago Maia have two cards, they shouldn’t run the risk of being suspended for the final and, therefore, they will also be able to play this morning.

Although Ceará is superior to Vélez, the other players available to the B team, which is better than most Brazilian teams, have everything to do with the job.

Quite simply, Flamengo should end the weekend as a real threat to Palmeiras, in addition to being a finalist as it already is in both the Copa do Brasil and the continental tournament.

If in doubt, in the Copa do Brasil, who will save will be São Paulo, pressured by the Sudamericana and worried about not taking risks in the national championship.

Let’s face it, it’s a formidable red-black resurrection and, even better, with enchantment, because the triumph in Buenos Aires had moments of pure magic, like the passing through the high line that ended with the 2-0, at the feet of Éverton Ribeiro .

The other goals of the 4-0 rout were all by Pedro, a rare stone that at each performance guarantees a stamp on the pages of his passport to Qatar, for now as an option, but, if he continues at the current pace, with the right to fight for a place as holder of the Brazilian team.

Pedro’s effectiveness on South American pitches is such that it’s no exaggeration to say that it’s only worth comparing with Comet Haaland’s on British pitches – nine goals in five Premier League games.

Pedro also scores goals in all sorts of ways, he appears with an incredible sense of placement on either side of the box, he just isn’t as big as the Manchester City striker, nine centimeters taller at 1.94 m.

Oh, and it doesn’t have the indefectible ponytail of the Norwegian machine, which is amazing!

Corinthians and Inter face each other this Sunday, at 4 pm, in Itaquera.

They will dispute what they can, the fourth place, maybe the third, in short, for a spot in the G4 of the Brazilian Championship.

It’s not little, not even what they dreamed of, because dreaming still doesn’t pay taxes, before the tournament starts.

Colorado is even long after being eliminated by the ridiculous Peruvian Melgar in the Sudamericana.

And for Corinthians, especially if they reach the finals of the Copa do Brasil (against Flamengo…), it will be the crowning of a worthy season.

Despite the price you can’t afford.
