Tite includes Pedro in the last call-up of the selection before the final list of the Cup

by

Coach Tite announced, on the morning of Friday (9), those called up to join the Brazilian team in the friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia, on the 23rd and 27th, in France. On the list, the last call before the definition of the final list of those going to the World Cup, is the name of striker Pedro.

The 25-year-old player is experiencing an exceptional phase at Flamengo – last Wednesday (8), he became the club’s top scorer in an edition of the Copa Libertadores, with 12 goals, leaving behind Zico (1981) and Gabigol (2021). The coach of the national team had been praising him and indicating the possibility of taking him, something that has now come to fruition.

According to Tite, Pedro has “a very special characteristic to face teams with low lines”, those more retracted, commonly found by the five-time champion formation. With his recent evolution and the increase in the number of athletes from each team at the Worlds –from 23 to 26–, he now has very real chances of going to Qatar.

Who also saw his possibility grow was the left-back Alex Telles, 29, from Sevilla. He no longer has competition from Guilherme Arana, 25, from Atlético Mineiro, who suffered a serious knee injury and will have to undergo surgery. The other vacancy for the position, future physical problems aside, will almost certainly be Alex Sandro, 31, from Juventus, again on the list.

The call-up released at the headquarters of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), in Rio de Janeiro, also presented tips on the last position of right-back and the last of defender. For the right side, only the holder Danilo, 31, from Juventus was called up. In defense, Bremer, 25, from Juventus, and Ibañez, 23, from Roma, appeared as new features.

“An observation: you noticed that only one right-back was called up, but we have two defenders who have played there recently: Ibañez and Militão”, said Tite, in a brief interruption while disclosing the names.

The duels with Ghana, in Le Havre, and Tunisia, in Paris, will be the final tests before the closing of the World Cup relationship. Tite needs to send a roster with 55 players by October 21st, which won’t be a problem. The 26 names must be handed in by November 14, but the delegation will already meet on that date, and the call will be announced earlier – there is still no schedule.

The World Cup will be held between November 20 and December 18, concentrated in and around the city of Doha. Brazil will make their debut on November 24 against Serbia. Four days later, it will measure forces with Switzerland. Its participation in Group G will be closed in a clash with Cameroon, on 2 December.
