The European Table Tennis Union has released its first independent ranking list

by

The ETTU published the January 2023 tables and, as it emphasized in its announcement, “is implementing the new European ranking platform that is completely independent and autonomous and this is the fruit of the methodical and painstaking work it has done over the last two years”.

The platform includes an experimental European system and experimental European ranking lists for 2023. Of course, there are many of our internationals in the tables, while given that they also concern the categories under 15 and under 13 years old, we should note that the candidacy is on a very good track of the Hellenic Philatelic Table Tennis Federation to organize next October in Loutraki an international tournament within the framework of a new institution, the Europe Youth Series.

“With the launch of the European Ranking Platform, the ETTU responds directly to the requests of our Member Association, adding value to all our events. I will highlight the fact that the results of European club competitions and team events can now be singled out, automatically increasing the number of European players included in the ranking system and of course adding value to our traditional team events which are mainly supported by European clubs , the real base of the European table tennis “chain”. Hard work has been done in recent months in building our European platform,” said ETTU Deputy President Pedro Mura.

The report states the objectives of the European Ranking Platform:

– To give more importance to the top European events.

– To offer more options for European middle and lower level players to show their level in Europe.

– To stimulate team competitions in Europe.

– To reward club events, which are the main income for most European athletes.

– To offer athletes and clubs more options to present themselves to their country’s Press and Media and to be more visible in these Media•

– For athletes under 15 and under 13 to represent the results of the new Europe Youth Series.

“We are in the first stage of establishing the European Ranking. This achievement was made possible with the cooperation of all members of the Union, the Ranking List Committee and the competition manager. We also thank the Coaches Committee for their participation.

By responding to this demand from our member associations, we restore value to European events, athletes and clubs. With your feedback, we will finalize a quality ranking for ETTU,” said Vice President Ranking Miguel Vicens.

During 2023, the European ranking will be used in the following way:

There will be a monthly published European individual ranking for men, women, boys under 15, girls under 15, boys under 13 and girls under 13. As there will be no Europe Youth Series for under 17 and under 19, there will be no European ranking for these age groups.

In 2023, the European rankings for men’s and women’s singles will not be used for seeding and tournament invitations. For the European TOP-16 Cup, the European Games and the European Team Championship, the world ranking will be used for invitations and seeding lists.

The European rankings for men’s under-21 singles and women’s singles under-21 will be used for invitations and seeding lists for the European Under-21 Championships in Sarajevo (ranking January 2023).

The European Under 15/Under 13 ranking will not be used for the seeding lists for the U13 and U15 European Championships. The world ranking will be used for this championship.

The European ranking will be used for seeding lists in Europe Youth Series events.

The European ranking will be used for invitations to the European Under-15 Top 10.”

The report on the European Union website also states:

In Malmö, during the 2023 European National Team Championship in September, the ETTU will decide how to proceed with the European ranking platform and adopt the final text of the regulation for the ETTU Ranking System.
