KOP President: “The final is high risk – Meeting with the Police on the 20th of the month”

The president of the football federation gave information on the EPO’s request to hold the final of the Novibet Hellenic Cup at GSP, in an interview with a Cypriot television station. George Koumas.

Mr. Koumas emphasized that this specific game is of high risk, while he underlined that the federation has verbally communicated with the Cypriot police for a meeting between April 17 and 20, in order to discuss preventive measures in the GSP.

He said in detail:

For the official request of the EPO: “We had it yesterday from the EPO, we passed it on to the Police. The GSP already made a contact with the EPO. We are in the process of seeing where it ends up. The request concerns the GSP. We are waiting for the date, there will be a meeting, we and some officials of the Federation responsible for hooliganism issues and the president of the EPO will be there. There will be a meeting with the Police headquarters, by phone. There are many unanswered questions, how many fans will come, if they will come, where they will stay. There are many and justified questions for the Police to take responsibility for such a fight”.

Regarding the fan card issue: “We had games in Cyprus without a card, but in this case, because it is a high-risk game, there should be an agreement with the authorities. First, let’s see the details, we still don’t have them until today, and in cooperation with the Police, let’s do what is best if we take responsibility for the match to take place here”.

On whether the Police can control a full GPS: “There has been such a fight in the past. In Cyprus we have associations of PAOK and AEK that will probably be in the final, I don’t know if a decision will be made that only sports fans from Cyprus will be there or if and how many will come. For our Police and for us who are in football, it is a high-risk game. We verbally said that the meeting should be held on the 20th of the month, maybe even on the 17th.”
