THE Abel Ferreira came to PAOK in the summer of 2019 and left in October 2020. During this time, the Thessalonikians did not win a title, and the Portuguese’s move from their bench was considered unsuccessful.
In his next job at Palmeiras, Ferreira has done incredible things, winning a total of six titles, including two Copa Libertadores.
The 45-year-old coach spoke to MARCA about his move from the bench of the “double head of the north”, stressing that it helped him a lot to mature professionally.
In detail what he said:
“I wanted to coach clubs fighting for titles. I was not a champion in any league. Only with the U19, but it’s different from being a champion in the A Division. When I was a player I won a few titles. My career started at Sporting, coaching kids. Then he took over the B team, preparing players for the A team. I did the same in Braga.
Then I went to PAOK and it was a very nice experience, with a lot of pressure to win every game. I experienced a beautiful atmosphere and learned a lot. I had Spanish, Portuguese, Italian players who played in different ways: that’s where I grew a lot as a coach. Then I came to Palmeiras. Her story is at the level of the best in the world. The project was very ambitious, working with children.”
