With our country justifiably hoping for four teams in the group stage for the second time in the last decade. The last time was in the 2014-15 season but with the champion directly in the Champions League groups…
With our country at 8-6-2 in the summer qualifiers to date aspiring to break the record of 12 wins, which is the best performance of our teams in the current decade!
With our country having the expectation of two teams in the Champions League, for the first time through a qualifying process.
And of course, it will not be a small matter if two of the six total tickets for the entire qualifying phase, claimed by a total of 50 European clubs, end up in Greek hands…
And here is a crazy scenario…
Crazy because of the very low position from which our country started this summer as well as the long distance from the milestone of 15th place, which we temporarily achieved last year and which gave us the five teams this summer…
Yet…
The possibility of a double Greek qualification with AEK and Panathinaikos in the groups of the Champions League and with the basic condition of the qualification of PAOK in the groups of the Conference can automatically put our country in the position to return to the European top-15 from this year!
And this is because in addition to winning the points in the eight Greek matches remaining until the Monaco draw next week, the double bonus of AEK and Panathinaikos (something like four extra wins) will be added for qualification to the Champions League groups.
A harvest equal, if not greater, to what our teams have achieved in total so far this summer, after 16 matches!
A harvest that together with the results they must achieve for the qualification will be over 2,000 points and together with the results of Olympiakos and PAOK will bring Greece to the top of the summer standings of the countries (close to Turkey, Poland and Iceland that precede this moment) and within tolerable distance from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Israel and Ukraine, which… hide us in 15th place at the moment in the overall 5-year ranking!
Especially if Copenhagen for Denmark and Maccabi Haifa for Israel do not have the same success in the Champions League playoffs. Come on Molde of 14th Norway with disqualification from Galatasaray!
All this is really nice for our country which last year won all three in the entire European season (all three from Aris…) and which finished in 41st place in the 2022-23 season…
It has already risen to 17th place in terms of this year’s harvest, but the Greek come back must also have a continuation in the last two weeks of August.
