They arrested… armed fans before APOEL-Apollon

The Cypriot police made six arrests yesterday, before the start of the match between the teams APOEL – Apollon (1-1), which was held in Nicosia, as part of the 4th matchday of the domestic championship.

According to the police, the arrests were made when the fans of the two teams arrived at the stadium, after checks carried out showed that they were in possession of offensive instruments, explosives and small amounts of drugs.

After the end of the match, in one of the stands of the stadium, a small tension was created by fans of one team, which ended immediately after the intervention of the police.

The arrests were made when the fans of the two teams arrived at the stadium, after controls carried out by the Police found offensive instruments, explosives and small amounts of drugs in their possession.

Specifically, at 7:20 p.m., in the area of ​​the GSP stadium, members of the Police stopped a car driven by a 22-year-old man for a check. During the ensuing search, 38 full shotgun cartridges were found inside the vehicle. The 22-year-old was arrested for an unprovoked crime and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

A little later, at 7.30 p.m. in the same area, a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old man was stopped for control. In a subsequent search, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis, a collapsible bat and a chemical gas spray. The 34-year-old was arrested and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

Five minutes later, during a search of the 29-year-old’s vehicle, in the same area, two pieces of wood, 70 and 90 centimeters long, were found. The 29-year-old was arrested for the self-inflicted offense of illegal possession of offensive instruments and was taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

Around 8.15pm, members of the Police proceeded to arrest two persons, aged 26 and 21. Two slingshots and a number of shrapnel were found in the car in which they were riding.

Finally, around 8.40 p.m. members of the Police, signaled fans, who were heading towards the stadium on foot, to stop for a check. A young man, who had his face covered with a scarf, attacked a member of the Police and abused him. The young man was arrested for an unprovoked crime, to establish that he is a 27-year-old man, who was taken into custody to facilitate investigations.
