The referee’s words are chilling, Argyri Katsiniwho saved the life of a football player in the game Ellopiakos-Atromitos Piraeus for the 2nd matchday of the 3rd National League.
The shocking incident happened only in the third minute of the match, when Ahimastos and Gogas collided, with the former falling to the ground, unconscious
In his chilling testimony to Grandsport.gr, Argyris Katsinis describes the moments of anxiety he experienced as soon as he realized the seriousness of the situation and emphasized that every second was critical.
“It was the third minute of the match and the ball was being played in the air. At that time the opponent goes to claim the ball in the air and the opponent hits the head of the other football player. He immediately lost consciousness in the air and therefore fell clumsily to the ground.
I immediately shouted, while it was in the air, for the doctors to come in. Immediately I saw the footballer was not moving at all so I turned him on his side as his tongue was turned! I turned him on his side as his nose was also broken and he was literally drowning in blood. He couldn’t breathe and I lifted his head. As soon as I saw that the tongue had fallen, I put my hand in and on the second attempt I succeeded. In fact, unintentionally, as he couldn’t control it, he bit my hand.
The seconds were crucial, if I didn’t run we would have had a problem or if I let the phase play out, because the player wasn’t breathing at all. From what I learned afterwards, he left for Athens, where he was treated at the KAT, had an X-ray and is not in danger.
For me it was something unprecedented, it happened to me for the first time, the good thing is that we were there and dealt with it successfully. Since we can, let’s do it. The referees who can help do not be afraid, because the seconds are crucial».
