Winter Olympics Agenda: See the highlights of Beijing 2022

From this Wednesday (2) until February 20, the Winter Olympic Games will be part of the nights, early mornings and mornings in the Brazilian sports program.

With ten athletes from the country in action and many international stars, Beijing-2022 will have several interesting disputes spread over the next few weeks. The action begins with curling mixed doubles, even before the opening ceremony on the 4th.

THE leaf prepared a guide with the main events of each day of the Games, which will be broadcast by TV Globo, SporTV and the website Olympics.com. The times indicated below are always those of Brasília.

February 2 nd

The Games begin with four curling mixed doubles matches at 9:05 am. Highlight for the duel between Great Britain and Sweden, which brings together champions and third placed from the last World Cup, respectively. The former Water Cube of swimming in the 2008 Olympics has now become the Ice Cube.

First Brazilian to compete in Beijing-2022, Sabrina Cass makes her Olympic debut at age 19. The youth world champion skier was born in the USA and recently started to defend Brazil, her mother’s country of origin. She disputes the classification in the moguls, freestyle ski competition, from 7 am.

February 4th

The opening ceremony starts at 9am and promises to be shorter than usual, lasting up to 100 minutes. The director, Zhang Yimou, is the same person who led the impressive opening of the 2008 Summer Games, also held at the stadium known as the Bird’s Nest. As with the Tokyo Games in 2021, the event was reduced in number of participants because of the pandemic. The Brazilian flag bearers are Edson Bindilatti, 42, and Jaqueline Mourão, 46, both in their fifth participation in the Winter Games.

February 5th

The first day with a full schedule of competitions features medals in six disciplines: cross-country skiing, biathlon, freestyle skiing, speed skating, short track speed skating and ski jumping.

february 6th

Just the night before in Brazil, at 10:30 pm, American Jamie Anderson seeks an unprecedented third consecutive gold in slopestyle snowboard.

The Brazilian Manex Silva, 19, makes his Olympic debut in cross country skiing, in the skiathlon event, at 4 am. The day has another classification stage and the women’s moguls finals, by Sabrina Cass, starting at 7 am.

february 7th

The first figure skating medals come out in the team event at 0:35 am.

Two-time Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin can win her first medal in Beijing 2022 in the alpine ski giant slalom at 2:45 am. The American must fight a duel against the Slovak Petra Vlhová.

february 8

Candidate for sensation in Beijing-2022, Chinese Eileen Gu, 18, aims for her first medal in big air freestyle skiing, starting at 23:00 the night before in Brazil.

The contests for bronze and gold in curling mixed doubles take place at 3:05 and 9:05, respectively.

In cross-country skiing, Brazilians Jaqueline Mourão and Eduarda Ribera, 17, compete in the sprint race from 5 am. The men’s dispute, with Manex Silva, starts at 5:50 am.

february 9

Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhová will face another duel in the alpine ski slalom at 2:45 am.

The women’s snowboard cross is the event in which Brazil had its best participation in the history of the Games, Isabel Clark’s ninth place in 2006. This time, the country has no representatives, but the unpredictability of the race makes it a great attraction. The final phase of the disputes starts at 3:30.

February, 10th

One of the most anticipated events of Beijing 2022 is the men’s figure skating final. The long program, starting at 10:30 pm the night before in Brazil, defines who will be the best in the duel between the Japanese two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu and the American three-time world champion Nathan Chen.

Jaqueline Mourão and Eduarda Ribera compete in the 10 km classic cross-country ski race at 4 am.

February 11

American Shaun White, 35, is one of the biggest stars in the history of winter sports. He is aiming for his fourth gold medal in the snowboard halfpipe in Beijing, but he is increasingly threatened by rivals of new generations. The final starts at 10:30 pm the night before.

At the same time, Brazilian Nicole Silveira, 27, makes her first descent on the skeleton track. Manex Silva competes in the 15 km classic cross-country skiing style at 4 am.

February 12th

Nicole returns to the track for her final skeleton descents at 9:20 am. The athlete is highly rated to have the best result in Brazil in Beijing-2022 and dreams of a place in the top ten.

February 13

Starting at 10:30 pm the night before, bobsled sees its first Olympic monobob contest, an individual event that debuts only for women.

The Brazilian Michel Macedo, 23, goes to his second Olympic participation in alpine skiing. The giant slalom final is played at 2:45 am.

February 14th

The night of the previous day in Brazil has the expectation for the second final of Eileen Gu, in slopestyle freestyle skiing from 22:30.

Brazil debuts in bobsled in the men’s doubles event, at first with Edson Bindilatti and Edson Martins, at 9:05 am.

February 15th

The big air plastic snowboard finals take place at 10:30 pm (female) the night before in Brazil and at 2 am (male).

The fourth and final descent of the bobsled pairs, with medals at stake, is scheduled for 10:50 am.

February 16th

Three Brazilian skiers compete for the last time in Beijing-2022. In alpine skiing, Michel Macedo participates in the slalom from 11:15 pm, still on the 15th of Brazil. At 6 am, the sprint for women’s teams in cross-country skiing begins. For the first time, Brazil is represented in the competition in a pair, with Jaqueline Mourão and Eduarda Ribera.

Short track speed skating promises thrills with the men’s relay at 9:44. China, silver in 2018, wants a rematch at home against Hungary, current Olympic champion and with two athletes of Chinese descent on the team.

February 17th

With the end of the event approaching, several medal disputes are expected in the most popular sports on the program.

The women’s ice hockey final, at 1:10 am, could be another dispute between rivals USA and Canada, as in 5 of the 6 Olympic tournaments held to date.

The women’s figure skating medals, probably dominated by the Russians, are contested in the long program at 7 am.

Curling team tournaments reach the knockout stages. The men’s semifinals take place at 9:05 am.

February 18th

The halfpipe freestyle ski final, starting at 10:30 pm the night before Brazil, should mark Eileen Gu’s last participation in the Beijing 2022 Games.

The men’s hockey semifinals take place at 1:10 am and 10:10 am.

Curling has another day of decisive events, with the men’s bronze contest at 3:05 am and the women’s semifinals at 9:05 am.

February 19

The Brazilian bobsled quartet, with Edson Bindilatti, Edson Martins, Erick Vianna and Rafael Souza (in addition to Jefferson Sabino in the reserve), goes down the track for the first time at 22:30 on the 18th in Brazil.

Manex Silva competes in his last race in Beijing-2022, the demanding 50 km mass start of cross-country skiing at 3 am.

Curling meets its male champions at 3:05 am and women’s bronze medalists at 9:05 am. The last medals of figure skating are distributed in the long program of the event in pairs at 8 am. In hockey, men compete for the bronze medal at 10:10 am.

February 20th

The last day of the Games still holds emotions. The decision for the gold medal in the women’s curling tournament takes place at 10:05 pm the night before in Brazil.

Brazil tries to be present in the final of the bobsled quartet, at 0:20 am.

At 1:10 am it’s time for the big hockey decision. Without the stars of the NHL (league of North America), the Russians are strong candidates to defend their title, but the Americans and Canadians want to challenge them.

The last event of the program is the 30 km mass start of cross-country skiing for women, at 3:30 am, without Brazilian women.

The closing ceremony is scheduled for 9 am.
