Karapapas: “The referee informed that Panathinaikos decided to leave alone”

by

The 4th vice-president and general manager of Olympiakos, Kostas Karapapas, made his own statement about what happened in the Olympiakos-Panathinaikos derby, which was stopped for good.

With his statements to the representatives of the press outside the “Georgios Karaiskakis”, Kostas Karapapas emphasized that the referee informed the two teams to go on the field and that on the match sheet, the referee noted that Panathinaikos left without Maresca’s decision.

At the same time, he warned that evidence will come to light, while also mentioning the incident with the firecracker at Brinioli in last year’s AEK-Panathinaikos 1-0.

What Costas Karapapas said in detail:

“Olympiacos tried to continue the match and not become a travesty. After the sound of the firecracker, the referee informed both teams that he would write on the match sheet that Panathinaikos left the field without a decision by the referee. Two hours later, Panathinaikos said that we never left the field and that they are ready to play, but they had already ordered pizzas in the locker room an hour and a half before.

This is going nowhere, we still have 5 matches to go, it’s a shame. From tomorrow you will see what will be released, photos, videos. Brignoli had received a firecracker in Philadelphia but no one left. We thank the people, everyone was patient, it was a Karaiskaki from the old days and we apologize for not seeing the match, but it was not our fault. The stoppage was made without any objective injury, without any medical finding”.
