The administration of Pan-Erythraikos AS is pleased to announce the start of its collaboration with the athlete Yiannis Athenaiou.
The experienced guard (1-2, 1.94), international in 26 matches with our National team, becomes a resident of Nea Erythraia, supporting the effort of Pan-Erythraikos for the rest of the current 2023-2024 season.
Giannis started his career at Elysiakos at the age of 18, to follow a series of appearances in the leading Greek clubs, but also in influential teams abroad. In order of time, he has played twice in Panionios with intermediate stop KAO Drama, Ari, Armani Milano, Eskişehir, AEK, Olympiakos, PAOK (playing again for Ari after his tenure with the “red and whites”), Provence, Panathinaikos, Peristeri, Promethea Patras, Bilbao and Ionian Nicaea, with his most recent station being Karditsa.
He has recorded several important moments in his career with two Greek championships, participating in 2016 with the Men’s National Team, in the pre-Olympic tournament of Turin and competing in 2017 with Olympiakos, while in the same year he “marked” the course of our National Team in the first qualifiers “windows” for the 2019 World Cup, with a decisive three-pointer in the premiere against Great Britain, which then started an 11-match winning streak for the presence of the Official Favorite in Mundobasketball. He has also scored individual distinctions in his career in the Basket League, with 279 appearances and over 1,600 points.
In his first statements as a Pan-Erythraikos player, Yannis Athenaiou said: “I am very happy to be a member of the Pan-Erythraikos team. It is known that the club is a model in the way it operates and its organization and I will try in my turn to help it achieve its goals.”
