The year 2023 ended in the most ideal and impressive way AEK Betsson BC!
In the last game of the year, his team Joan Platha made an excellent appearance in south-eastern Attica, prevailing with the impressive 90-75 of Lavrio for the 12th matchday of the Stoiximan Basket League, reaching at the beginning of the fourth period up to +26!
Having a terrible night him Justin Tillmanwith the tall American finishing the game with 31 points and 6 rebounds (!), and playing a lot good defense in the longest period of the match, “Union” reached its sixth victory of the season, while also celebrating its first double this year in the league after five unsuccessful outings from Ano Liosia.
Apart from Tilman, the “yellow and black” also stood out McRae (13 points, 6 rebounds), Kouseloglou (11 points, 11 rebounds), Candy (3 points, 13 assists) and Netzipoglou (12 points), with the latter leaving just before the final with an injury problem. As far as he is concerned Jordan Morgan, recorded his first minutes in the AEK jersey, scoring 3 points (3/4 shots) and a rebound in 3:50 minutes of participation.
For the laurel, which fell at 4-8 khe experienced his seventh defeat in the last eight league games, stood out the De Julius and Castaneda with 19 and 17 points respectively.
The match:
The Laurel started with DeJulius, Thornton, Flaten, Moore and Godika in his starting five, with AEK Betsson BC on her part to start the match with Randle, Karabela, Netzipoglou, Kouseloglou and Tillman on the floor. The beginning of the “Union” was stormy, with Justin Tillman to break and dominate under the two baskets. With six points from the American center and a basket from Netzipoglou and Randle, the “yellow and black” took the lead 13-0 in 4′!
The first basket for Lavrios in the match, which was very inaccurate in the first period (4-17 from the field with 2/11 three-pointers), came after 4:10 minutes with a three-pointer by DeJulius for 13-3 . Then his entrance Castaneda on the court, he gave the hosts an aggressive spirit, with AEK however comfortably maintaining the difference in double digits. With Netzipoglou and McRae taking over from Tilman and finding easy baskets, “Union” closed the first quarter in front of score with 26-11.
In the second quarter came the competitive rise of Lavrio. With Castaneda in front and his worthy supporter De Julius, the home team significantly improved their percentages behind 6.75m, “gnawing” the difference to single digits. With a quick 11-3 run midway through the period, Kostas Mexa’s team managed to cut it short at 6 (25-31) at 15′. Tilman’s entrance to the court shortly after “unstuck” aggressively AEK, which “hitting” the racket went to +13 (29-42) in the 17th minute. Two consecutive 3-pointers by Thornton, however, allowed Lavrio to reduce to 42-35 at 18′, before AEK closed the quarter at +8 for 45-37 in the first half.
As in the first half, so in third period, AEK entered serious and concentrated in defense and attack, fully imposing their own rhythm. Finding scores from multiple players and taking advantage of Lavrio’s nervousness, Plathas’ team quickly increased the lead at +13 for 56-43 in the 23rd minute. Indicative of the aggressive and “steely” defense that “Union” played in the third quarter, was the fact that Lavrio succeeded just 5 points (3 shots) in the last 6.5 minutes of the period!
This resulted in the guests finding easy points in the open court by the mistakes of the home team, thus increasing the difference over 15 points. Two minutes before the end of the period, Jordan Morgan made his debut with the “yellow and black”, achieving his first points a little later. With a three-pointer by Flionis before the final, AEK closed the period with the maximum value of the difference in the match for +23 and 71-48.
Somehow, h fourth and final period acquired a procedural character, since the difference was such that it left no room for doubt as to who will be the winner of the match. This fact, in combination with the relaxation of AEK towards the end of the quarter, allowed Lavrio to collect somewhat the extent of the score, with “Enos” leaving Lavreotiki victorious with the final 90-75!
The quarters: 26-11, 37-45, 48-71, 75-90.
