Fencing: The 38th “Acropolis” World Cup at OAKA between March 1-3

The organization-institution of Greek fencing and one of the oldest and most stable international amateur sports events in Greece will be held this year for the 38th time in the fencing hall of the OAKA.

In the 5th consecutive international saber event of the 2023-2024 competition season, 200 of the top female saber athletes from all over the world will meet for another year, who will fight for victory in the individual and team events. In recent years, two Greek women, Dora Goundoura and Despina Georgiadou, have been among the top players in the world, who will compete at home as No. 2 and No. 6 in the world, respectively, and are expected to offer great thrills to those who attend the games. We remind you that in the corresponding event of 2023, Gundoura had won the bronze medal in the individual and the National epee team of Gundoura, Georgiadou, Benou and Mavrikakis had won the historic 7th place.

On Friday 1/3, the individual qualifying round and the knockout matches will be held until the main draw of 64 is formed, the matches of which will start on the morning of Saturday 2/3. On Sunday 3/3, the team matches will be held with 21 National teams from all over the world. Greece will take part with the maximum allowed number of 20 female athletes and many of the youngest epee fencers will have the opportunity to get a taste of international competition at the highest level. Of these, 18 will compete in the qualifying round, while the duo of Gundoura and Georgiadou have direct qualification for Saturday’s main draw.

17:00 – Semi-finals and final

Sunday March 3:

10:30 – Team – Board of 32
