by

Ukraine showed metal“tumble” with 2-1 her Slovakia in Dusseldorf, in the context of the 2nd matchday of the 5th group of Euro 2024 and kept the case of qualification open for both countries!

Typically the hosts took the lead with Schranz at 17′, but they gradually ran out of strength and… ideas. With the “guests” turning up after half an hour, let them have beams with Timchuk and Mudric in the 34′ and 74′, to come the goals of Saparenko -who also had an assist- and Yaremchukwho came on as a substitute, in the 54th and 80th minutes, for the complete reversal.

Thus, Ukraine got their first 3 points of the tournament, while Slovakia stayed the same. Slovakia-Romania and Ukraine-Belgium are the pairs in the last matchday, where it will be finally decided who will continue in the knockouts…

The match:

Having low rate with both teams taking zero risks, the match took on… life after quarter time. With Slovakia ramping up their pressure and recording two goal phases in the space of a minute!

However, Trubin blocked both Haraslin’s shot and Schranz’s attempt in the 10th and 11th respectively, keeping the score at 0-0.

Ukraine appeared to be facing problems both in development and, mainly, in the rear. She couldn’t keep the ball, while her players lost the opponents many times.

And just like that, completely naturally, it was 1-0, in the 17th minute, when from Haraslin’s cross from the left, an unmarked Schrantz scored with a header at the second post!

A prolonged “dead” period followed, until Sergei Rembrov’s team reacted just before the half-hour mark, making their presence felt, but without scoring.

Initially with Pekarik putting last minute the “stop” to Dovbyk in the 28th minute and Yarmolenko to miss in the next phase.

With the momentum in her favor, but also the opponent showing an inexplicable nervousness, she had two more very good moments for 1-1. However, his cross shot Timchuk in the 34′ stopped at right beam by Dubravka and two minutes later, Mundric couldn’t quite place the four-four with Dubravka from a sideline position!

While the final phase of the first 45 minutes belonged to Francesco Calzona’s men, who almost scored at a crucial point, through a counter-attack in the 44th minute, but Trubin saved Duda’s shot, keeping it 1-0…

In the second half, it was Ukraine that came in more determined. He threatened in the 51st minute, with Dovbik not having a good body position on his header, but… he was vindicated three minutes later.

When in a quick counterattackZinchenko passed very nicely from the left to the untroubled Saparenko at the height of the penalty, which with place, achieved it 1-1 for his country!

Subsequently, took control of the match, forcing the “scared” Slovakia into a passive rolecorrectly circulated the ball and calmly looked for the total overthrow.

He had a very good chance to achieve it, in fact, in the 74th minute, with Mudric sending the ball to beam, for the second timefrom a difficult angle and to the left of the area.

To succeed in the next one, however, at 80′after Saparenko’s very nice assist, his even nicer control – coming off the bench – Yaremchuk and its finish, for the 2-1 and the outbreak of all in festivities!

MVP: He did it… all in Dusseldorf o Saparenko, with the Dynamo Kyiv midfielder being the main protagonist. And how could it be otherwise, when he had it goal of equalization and the assist to Yaremchuk for Ukraine’s 2-1? At the same time, he helped his team win the “battle” on the axis, especially in the replay.

The compositions of the two teams:

Slovakia (Francesco Calzona): Dubravka, Pekaric, Vavro, Skriniar, Hadsko (67′ lt. Obert), Lobotka, Kutska, Duda (60′ Benes), Schradz (86′ Sauer), Haraslin (67′ Suslov), Bozenic (60′ Strelets) .
