THE Lorenzo Brown is the first summer transfer for him Panathinaikos AKTORwith the naturalized Spanish guard leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv after two years, signing for the next three years with the ‘cloverleaf’.
And while only the formalities and the official announcement remain, the 33-year-old ace gave an interview to “Israel Hayom”, talking both about the season that ended and about his presence in the “people’s team”, while, at the same time, regarding the new chapter of his career, he emphasized that the going to “clover” was the best decision for him and his career.
Lorenzo Brown’s statements in detail:
For the completed season: “First of all, I’m happy that we managed to win the championship. I needed it for myself and my teammates. We won it together. It was a very long season, but we were crowned champions, which made the end especially sweet.”
For the EuroLeague: “If we deserved the Euroleague? I feel like we could do it. We lost Baldwin, one of the best players in Europe. If he was healthy, we could have won comfortably.”
About his feelings: “Despite everything that happened, I loved every moment. We had a very difficult season, playing away from home all the time. My wife was pregnant and I had to take care of my family while we were away, but the path we took was amazing. I will never forget this season.
Unfortunately, since coming to Europe I have never been lucky. First the covid stopped the season, then the war started while I was in Kazan and now that I came here, I faced another such situation. Nevertheless, this season and this championship was unique for me, because I felt that I was in a place that loved me and I felt at home for a second season. I had some tough times and had some bad games, but I think that speaks volumes to the young kids who want to be basketball players. You don’t make good plays every time, but you have to learn and improve from it. Not one of those who criticized me knows how hard I worked and what sacrifices I made.”
On the fact that this year’s player group was broken due to the war situation: “It’s really sad and I’m sorry about it. These two years of ours have been great and this has been one of the best teams I’ve played against. Katas is one of the top coaches in Europe and it’s a real shame. I would love to see this team reunited at some point in the future, but it’s probably out of our control. However, the decision I made to leave Maccabi and go to Panathinaikos was the best for me and my family.”
