Nico Williams: He turned down three teams that paid his release clause, none of them Barcelona!

by

Finally he put Nico Williams in the scenarios of his departure from the Athletic Bilbaoas he decided to stay with his team Ernesto Valverde.

The young Spanish winger was one of the “hottest” names in the summer transfer market, after his amazing performances at the Euros. However, it seems that the teams that want him will have to be patient for one more season, since he himself wants to compete with Athletic in the Europa League, being at the side of his big brother, Inaki.

His contract expires in 2027 and his release clause is at 58 million euros. Athletic would not say no to a possible sale, but respected the decision of the footballer, who this summer turned down three clubs willing to pay the required amount immediately. None of these three clubs, however, was the Barcelonawhich moved to purchase it, but was unable to pay the clause and wished to pay in installments.

This was not the first time Nico Williams turned down a team and chose to remain a resident of Baskonia, as last year Aston Villa tried twice to convince him to move to England, even doubling his wages, without success!

The Basque president, Jon Uriarte, recently emphasized that “the Niko chapter is over. We are turning the page because he wants to stay here». This will be the new Spanish football star’s fifth season in Athletic’s first team, with whom he has played in 126 games. Last year he helped his team win the Copa Del Rey after a drought of 40 years and this year he is hoping for something bigger.
