The assessment of the year that is leaving us in a few days was done by Razvan Lucescuspeaking in Romania Media.
His coach PAOKexpressed his satisfaction and joy at how things turned out for the “double-header of the north”, stressing that it was a wonderful and full season, which was accompanied by winning the championship.
At the same time, he also referred to his father, Mircea Lucescuwho took over the reins of the Romanian national team.
2024 is coming to an end. We can call it a great year for you, right?
“Great year, yes. A wonderful year, a year full of many satisfactions, many. A complex year, with many difficulties at the same time, because when you achieve something spectacular, you have to overcome many obstacles and face many disappointments. But that was largely rectified and we managed to finish 2024 in a great way.”
You are in Romania, which is rare. How many times a year are you with your family?
“This summer we all managed to get together in June. Since then, however, we have not gathered again.”
How did you spend Christmas this year?
“My parents were with Matei (his son) and his family, while my daughter, who was with her in-laws in Spain, celebrated Christmas there. I spent the holidays with my wife.”
Did you manage to meet with Mr. Mircea Lucescu since you returned to the country?
“No, just for a few minutes, on December 24 at noon.”
How do you see your father’s new challenge in the National team, at the age of 79?
“I think it’s perfectly normal when someone is called upon to make such an important decision, to want to discuss it with people they trust. I have not been involved much in the process, I believe that the one who has to decide, knows exactly what to do. Nevertheless, I help him with some questions, which may guide him.
In my personal opinion, he did exceptionally well. My father has unique experience and is, without a doubt, the best coach Romania has had. His mind is particularly sharp and his wisdom has been acquired through years and years of intense experiences, in beautiful and difficult times, in tough matches at the highest level.
If he wasn’t in the National Team, who else could take over right now? From my point of view, it is the most correct decision. My father is a man who has a lot to offer, both through his knowledge and through his experiences. This challenge satisfies him and makes him feel complete. And from a personal point of view, I think it’s very positive that he made this decision. Regardless of how it turns out, I think it’s the perfect finale to an impressive career.”
