“Unfortunately, it was not possible for me to say goodbye and thank you all personally. So I want to do it this way, but not without my heart.
For over a year I was allowed to be a member of the great club as a coach. For me it has always been something more than any job. I’m from the area and I used to go to ‘Parkstadion’ (former Schalke headquarters) when I was a kid, to support the players.
The club is very special. And this is not just about the great tradition and successes of the past. It has to do mainly with the whole world that loves and lives for Schalke. It has to do with all the fans who celebrate every weekend.
And with you.
Throughout my tenure at Schalke, I have never met a team man who did not care how we played at the weekend. Someone for whom Schalke was just an employer and not his passion. I found it impressive that I experienced it and it was extremely beneficial.
A club is more than just professionals on the pitch and sports people who are constantly in public view. Many more.
