by

Past from the Serbian bench and officially after a four -year period is the Svetislav Pesic. The 76 -year -old coach leaves with the completion of his contract, as after the failure in Eurobasket the federation decided to turn the page and the Dusan Alibijevic It is alleged to be at the forefront.

Under Pesic, Plavi won the silver medal in the 2023 World Cup and the bronze at the 2024 Olympics. As a Yugoslav coach had won gold in Eurobasket in 2001 and the World Cup in 2002.

The announcement by the Serbian Federation states:

Today a big chapter for Serbian basketball is closing. The contract of our coach, Mr. Svetislav Pesic, with the Serbian basketball federation ended today, ending his term on the bench of the national team and ending an extremely important period in the history of the national team.

The Serbian basketball federation expresses its immense gratitude to the legend of coaching for everything he did in the previous period for the growth and prosperity of Serbian basketball and for the transmission of his wealth of knowledge to players and the coaching staff and all around him.

When he took over the team in his second term, Serbia was looking for a way to restore what always adorned our basketball – the worship of the national team, the faith in the team and the power of unity. Curry did just that. His experience, knowledge and invaluable charisma have joined the best elements of Serbian basketball and restored faith in the “eagles”, both to players and fans.

The results of themselves are enough to stay in history: a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, silver at the Manila World Championships, as well as a return to the big European scene through a Eurobasket appearance. But perhaps more important than medals, it’s the way this team has become a family again. With ‘Curry’, the national team once again became a symbol of pride and the Serbian athletic spirit.

Pesic has written the golden pages of our own and Yugoslav basketball in the past – from the Golden European Medal in Istanbul in 2001 and the world crown in Indianapolis in 2002. Thanks to him, the Serbian basketball has breathed in for the past three years.

Svetislav Pesic will remain active in the professional work of the Serbian Basketball Federation, so in the future he will use his extensive experience and knowledge to help further Serbian basketball and be there to help and provide support to the new coach and coach.
