The biggest “meteor storm” of the last decades is coming – The “tail” of comet SW3 will “fall” on Earth

by

An extremely impressive phenomenon is expected next week in the Earth’s sky, as well as the “tail” of comet 73P / Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 will “fall” on Earth, with thousands of icy meteors shattering in the atmosphere of our planet.

Scientists are talking about a huge phenomenon, which will be visible in all its glory in the northern United States and parts of Canada, next week and specifically on Tuesday.

What we know about comet SW3

SW3 was first identified in 1930 by German observers Arnold Schwassmann and Arno Arthur Wachmannwho determined that it will have an orbit lasting 5.4 years.

Over time, the celestial roof became very pale, but in 1995 it unexpectedly became almost 400 times brighter and was visible even to the naked eye.

What had happened; The comet’s frozen nucleus had split in four, releasing huge amounts of gas and material. By 2006, the crushed comet was split into 68 pieces and has probably split into even more since then.

Computer modeling suggests that fragments of the SW3 have spread out of its orbit like tentacles!

However, these fragments are not visible until the Earth “passes” through them. This year, our planet is going to cross this region on May 31stalthough the comet itself is estimated to pass through the “neighborhood” of our planet a few months later.
