Cloud failure creates instability in Amazon, iFood and Disney+

by

A flaw in AWS (Amazon’s cloud computing platform) generated instability in applications and left pages down on the internet in the early afternoon of Tuesday (7).

Services such as Amazon Prime Video, iFood, Disney+ and League of Legends are among those affected. Amazon’s cloud service is the most hired in the world.

On social networks, customers complained about pages not loading inside the apps. In the case of iFood, they reported that not even contact with the help center was possible.

Sought, the company did not comment until the publication of this text.

On the Downdetector website, which monitors user complaints around the world, the peak of registrations occurred around 13:00. Brazil is one of the countries with complaints.

Amazon’s operations and products, such as Alexa, the company’s virtual assistant, have had issues and have not yet been fully re-established.

On a page about how AWS works, the company says it has identified the root cause of the problem and is “actively working towards recovery.”

Sought, Amazon has not yet positioned itself on the matter.

In October, a blackout in Meta’s services (Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram headquarters) left the company’s apps offline for more than six hours. More than 2.72 billion people were without access at the time, which jeopardized business and communications of all kinds.

This week, Procon-SP claimed to have fined Facebook more than R$ 11 million due to the global blackout, in particular because of WhatsApp, the most used chat application in the country. The agency accuses the company of poor service provision.
