Google has expressed its concerns about Truth Social
Google of Alphabet Inc approved the application of former US President Donald Trump with the name Truth Social for availability from the online store Google Play Store.
Application manage the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), while it is expected to be available soon from the Play Store, as Google announced.
TMTG however did not immediately comment. The app in question was activated in the US and on the Apple App Store in February, while it was previously unavailable on the Play Store due to poor content management, according to a statement from a Google spokesperson made in August.
Google has raised concerns with Truth Social about violations of its Play Store policies, which prohibit the posting of content such as threats of physical violence and coercion.
Without Google and the Apple store, there is no easy way for mobile users to download Truth Social.
The Google Play Store is the primary way for Android mobile phone users in the US to download apps.
Android mobile users can download apps from competing online stores or directly from one page, although the process often requires more steps and security permissions. Truth Social is available from these media although Google blocked its availability from the Play Store.
Android mobile devices make up about 40% of the US mobile phone market.
Truth Social restored Trump’s social media presence more than a year after his posts were banned by Twitter Inc, Facebook and Alphabet Inc’s YouTube after his followers invaded Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, after he had been accused of posting messages calling for violence.
TMTG has pledged to provide “an inclusive and censorship-free experience” through the Truth Social app, appealing to a user base that expresses its views on hot-button issues such as the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, the posting of which has rejected by the most important social media technology platforms.
