This year’s European Cyber ​​Security Month focuses on ‘social engineering’, i.e. methods such as spoofing, phishing or fake offers, which are increasingly used by fraudsters to trick their victims into taking certain actions online or give them sensitive and personal information.

European Cyber ​​Security Month is an annual campaign to raise awareness of cyber security and to spread best practice. The European Commission is supporting European Cybersecurity Month by organizing events across Europe throughout October. The best and most innovative cybersecurity information material is awarded.

The launch event will take place at the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions in Brussels on 2-4 October. Those who register will be able to watch and participate in the event online.

Ms Margrethe Vesteyjer, Executive Vice-President for a Europe Ready for the Digital Age, said: “Every October we ask citizens to be vigilant when surfing the internet. Criminals are becoming increasingly creative in their efforts to deceive, exploit the trust of others and encourage individuals, businesses and organizations to share information. Cyber ​​threats are constantly changing and we should be informed about how we can stay safe online. »

The Cybersecurity Skills Eurobarometer, published in May 2024, highlights the need for cybersecurity awareness and training, particularly from the perspective of EU businesses. The Commission’s Cybersecurity Skills Academy, a platform bringing together skills courses and initiatives cybersecurity from across Europe, is accessible to everyone online.
