The couple who stayed in the ISS for 9 months are expected to begin their journey to return to Earth later this week.
The capsule of Space X by Ilon Musk, which carried the new crew, also known as Crew-10 to the International Space Station (ISS) in order to return to Earth by the two Astronauts of Bouts Wuilor and Sunni Williams has arrived.
When Bouts Wilmore and Sunni Williams arrived at the ISS, they were only 8 days left, but due to technical problems presented in the experimental spaceship they arrived, they stayed there for more than nine months.
Now, the couple is expected to begin their journey to return to Earth later this week.
Steve Stich, NASA’s crew manager, said he was excited about the prospect.
“Butch and Sunn have done a great job and we are excited to bring them back,” he said.
Live shots showed the SpaceX Crew Dragon connecting to the ISS and open a hatch. Shortly after 0545 GMT, the astronauts embraced the crew that would replace them.
Crew-10 consists of NASA astronauts, Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Japanese Takuya Onishi and Russian Kirill Peskov.
All the astronauts will remain in space for two days and then start the return journey to Butch Wilmore and Sunni Williams. However, there could be further delay, as there should be appropriate conditions on Earth for a safe reimbursement of the returning capsule, according to Dana Weigel, director of the ISS program.
