At least 50 people have set up a human chain to rescue a 6-year-old girl who died in Lake Michigan over Memorial Day weekend.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the girl was swimming in Lake Kent at Martindale Beach at 5:30 a.m. Monday when the incident occurred.
The speaker’s officials searched for help finding different children throughout the day. All children except one of the 6-year-old girls from Detroit were found.
When police couldn’t find the girl, beachgoers began moving around and began checking the water. At least 50 strangers gathered to find a boy handcuffed on the beach.
One witness, Emirea Dara, tells of how some 50 people formed a human chain in an attempt to save a child from the water. A group of 50 went online to find a girl underwater.
He was in the water too long to be revived before he was found.
“A lot of police started showing up, scuba gear showed up, there were police drones, and then about 50 people formed a human chain,” Dara told Click-on-Detroit.
“Everyone was holding hands and going to the beach where they thought it was. The number of people who want to dive underwater to make this human chain to find this girl. I was very impressed,” said Dara.
The girl was eventually found in a brushy area near the shoreline. According to the Kensington undercover police, she was taken to hospital and later sentenced to death. She was on the beach with her mother who was taken to the hospital.
The local government investigates the case.
