COVID – Unprecedented situations in Germany: Solz even considers compulsory vaccination

by

Unprecedented scenes and dramas unfold in Germany due to the pandemic. The tragic milestone of 100,000 deaths due to Covid-19 was surpassed today, Thursday, with the first death to be announced on March 8, 2020. Today, the cases exceeded 75,000, a record number within 24 hours, while the death toll reached 351.

Incumbent Chancellor Angela Merkel called for an immediate imposition of a general lockdown – and for vaccinated ones – but her proposal was rejected by the parties of the new governing coalition, according to the BILD newspaper.

However, new Chancellor Olaf Solz has hinted that even compulsory vaccination is within the tools of the new government.

It is noted that, as reported by Deutsche Welle journalist Irini Anastassopoulou, a general ban is not easy to impose, as lockdowns are the responsibility of the states and not the federal government.

It is noted that as of yesterday, Wednesday, only those who have either a vaccination or recovery certificate or a negative coronavirus test have access to businesses and trains. The aim of this measure is to reduce the fourth wave of the pandemic. The regulation will be valid until March 19, 2022 and can be extended for another three months.
