Morabito has been sentenced to 30 years in prison and until yesterday was one of Italy’s most dangerous fugitives
the “big one” Rocco Morabito, who is considered one of the most powerful drug traffickers in the world, was extradited to Italy today by Brazil. Morabito was arrested last year in Brazil, in a joint operation by Italian and Brazilian police forces.
Morabito has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment and until yesterday he was one of the most dangerous Italian fugitives. Dragetta’s “godfather” was arrested for the first time at the age of 22 because he had threatened one of his professors at the university. After a year, in the context of a “mafia civil war”, his brother, Leo Morabito, was murdered. In 1994 he moved to Milan, where he and his uncle undertook contacts and negotiations with representatives of Colombian drug trafficking “cartels”.
A year later, Rocco Morabito traveled illegally to Brazil and for over twenty years continued to live with a fake passport and a fake name in various Latin American countries.
In 2017 he was arrested in Uruguay. But Dragetta’s “godfather” managed to escape from the roof of the Montevideo prison shortly before he was extradited to Italy. His fugitive trial ended definitively on May 21, 2021 in Brazil.
