Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions: €89 million to support researchers in Europe

by

A total of 13 doctoral training programs and 13 excellent quality postdoctoral fellowship programs will be funded with €89 million from the EU.

Today, the Commission announced the results of the 2021 call for proposals under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) for the co-financing of regional, national and international programs (COFUND).

A total of 13 doctoral training programs and 13 excellent quality postdoctoral fellowship programs will be funded with €89 million from the EU.

The countries with the largest number of selected projects are Spain, Ireland and Finland. These programs will support the training, supervision and professional development of over 700 outstanding scientists conducting research in a wide range of scientific subjects, from drug and medical device discovery to quantum technologies, nanotechnology and botany.

The Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Ms Maria Gabriel, said: “Many programs will show ways to move from basic research to industrial or clinical applications, taking advantage of the solutions offered by physics, biology, data science or materials science to address global challenges such as childhood cancer, clean energy, clean water and sustainable development. I am pleased to note that the selected programs will take into account important parameters such as the openness of science, community involvement, entrepreneurship, gender, ethics and high-quality supervision, and will encourage more talented women to apply.”

Thanks to MSCA COFUND actions, these institutions have received funding to develop and support their own doctoral and postdoctoral training programs. Researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate with many non-academic partners and leading institutions from around the world. This call for proposals is the first to be launched under the Horizon Europe program for research and innovation. Since 2014, MSCA actions have funded 217 COFUND projects.
