The truck driver was changing tires on the side of the road when the bus crashed into him near the city of Malawi, about 220 kilometers (137 miles) south of Cairo. Footage from the scene released by local authorities shows the bus suffering severe front-end damage.
Ambulances rushed to the scene to take the injured to hospitals in Minya. The health ministry said at least 16 of the injured were released from hospitals after treatment.
Road accidents kill thousands every year in Egypt, which has a poor record of transport safety. Accidents are mainly caused by excessive speed, careless driving, bad roads or poor application of traffic rules.
In January, at least 16 people were killed and 18 others injured when a minibus collided with a public transport bus in the Sinai Peninsula. In April last year, a bus overturned while trying to pass a truck on a highway in the southern province of Assiut, killing at least 21 people and injuring three others.
