Relatives of an Afghan boy who stayed behind in France after being separated from his family to escape the Taliban have accused Priti Patel of making a “wrong promise” about a safe route to Britain.

Qamar Jabarkhil, a 28-year-old British citizen, said his 11-year-old cousin Obaidullah “melted” when he cried to him every day from their small apartment in Strasbourg.

Ovaidura and her parents, along with her twin brothers and sisters, fled their hometown of Jalalabad last summer when the Taliban took control.

They planned to fly to England to stay in Kabul, but were separated because they were waiting to board the plane when the bomb exploded outside Kabul airport on August 26.

“It sounded like a complete mess because Ovaidura told me,” Kamal said.

“I had twin brothers, they ran one way to the (airport) gate and the family ran the other way.

Kamal believes that his brother was taken to Doha. In Doha, Ovaidura, exhausted from the trip, fell asleep and disappeared when the twins went to the bathroom.

According to his cousin, the young man, then 10 years old, was woken up by a stranger who promised to meet his brother on the plane and left in another direction.

However, engineer Kamal said he had mistakenly boarded another plane to France, which he had been “unhappy and scared” for the past eight months.

A 22-year-old Afghan refugee living in a studio in Strasbourg took over Ovaidura, but she worked long hours and was unable to care for the youngsters.

In March, with advice from the Ministry of the Interior, Ovaidura’s relatives applied for a family reunification visa.

That same month, Obidura turned 11 years old, thousands of kilometers away from his beloved.

“It was really hard. A man I live with bought a birthday cake, but he was crying all day. He didn’t want to cut his cake,” Kamal said.

“When an 11-year-old boy says only ‘hello’ and ‘hello’ 20 times a day, my heart aches. “

“He told me hundreds of stories about the vegetables his friends and family grow in the garden, not the one I was talking about on the phone in Afghanistan many years ago.

Four months later, Obaidullah’s family say the Home Office has yet to confirm whether the boy can be with them in the UK.

“The Home Office feels that it doesn’t even care about these empty promises. Priti Patel allows people from Afghanistan to settle in the country,” said Kamal.

According to his cousin, Ovaidura’s parents and sister were unable to evacuate Afghanistan after the Taliban attacked Jalalabad and resettled in rural areas of the country.

According to Kamal, the young man is eager to see his brother and eventually the rest of his family, but his mother fears that she will never see her son again.

“I don’t think he’s ever going to see them again. He thinks they’re going to kill him or they’re going to kill them,” he said.

This was after Congressman Bob Blackman filed a case in the House of Commons with Obidura, describing the bureaucracy surrounding biometric cards and applications as a “nightmare”.

Up to 20,000 refugees are expected to arrive under the ACRS, with the first part of the plan prioritizing individuals and families secured by Operation Pitting, Britain’s main military rescue mission.

The remaining two routes include British Council relocation and security contractors in the UK, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also sends refugees for resettlement.
