The Spanish employees of the low-cost airline Ryanair started their strike on June 24, demanding better working conditions.
Strike action by Ryanair flight staff in Spain, which began at the end of June, will continue until January 2023 through regular 24-hour work stoppages, the two unions that called the strikes announced today.
Spanish employees of the low-cost airline began their strike on June 24 to demand better working conditions, as demanded by the United Workers Union (USO) and the independent flight staff union SITCPLA.
Initially, six days of strike action were planned. However, the USO and SITCPLA decided at the beginning of July to extend until July 28 their mobilizations, which concern all ten Spanish airports where the Irish company has bases.
“Ryanair has not made the slightest effort to reach out to the unions”, and “after publicly expressing its refusal to enter into any dialogue”, the USO and SITCPLA “are forced to extend” yet again” the strike”, the two unions note in their announcement.
New 24-hour work stoppages will therefore take place from August 8, from Thursday to Friday. This mobilization will continue “until January 7”, i.e. for a period of five months, clarify the two unions.
In addition to improving working conditions for the company’s 1,900 flying staff in Spain, the unions are demanding the reinstatement of 11 striking workers who were fired in the past month.
