France: New fire in the Ardes

“The fire broke out between 8:30 and 8:45 and spread rapidly due to strong winds,” the mayor of Lavilledie told BFM television.

Forestry rages fire which erupted today along the Ardes River in the southwest Franceturning 7,500 acres into ashes in a matter of hours, according to local authorities who ordered precautionary measures evacuations.

In particular, they have been evacuated two factories near the community of Lavildieu, adjacent camps and an animal sanctuary. Early in the afternoon an order was given to evacuate the Vogue community.

More than 450 firefighters are working to contain the blaze and evacuate residents at risk.

Earlier this month, forest fires burned more than 200,000 hectares in the Gironde department (southwest) as France – like other European countries – faced a heat wave.
