Washington is ready to impose large-scale economic sanctions on Moscow in the event of a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told a news conference following a meeting of NATO foreign ministers on Wednesday.
“We have made it clear to the Kremlin that we will respond decisively, including a series of high-impact economic measures that we have avoided using in the past,” he said.
According to Blinken, Washington intends to inform Moscow in advance about details of possible restrictions.
In addition, US authorities are urging Ukraine to show restraint in its relations with Russia in the current situation. “The United States remains steadfast in our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. And committed to our cooperation in the field of security with Ukraine. “… We also urge Ukraine to continue to show restraint,” Blinken said.
