by

An Accessible Tourist Destination sign will be introduced soon, as the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias emphasizes in his statement, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Specifically, he stated the following:

“At the Ministry of Tourism we work tirelessly for the accessibility of our destinations to all citizens, including People with Disabilities. For this purpose, in the Bill that will be submitted soon to the Parliament, an Accessible Tourist Destination Signal is introduced.

We also institute the process of awarding the Accessible Tourism Enterprise Label to tourism companies of all categories and types, with the aim of raising their awareness, motivation, so that they become more friendly, accessible and therefore easier to visit to people, Greek citizens and visitors from abroad, with disabilities or reduced mobility.

At the same time, we utilize the resources of the Recovery Fund to improve accessibility to the country’s beaches, financing the development of semi-permanent infrastructure interventions, such as the construction of non-permanent beach access ramps, non-permanent corridors so that the wheelchair can be accessed. , adapted shower facilities, locker rooms and toilets, adapted shading areas for wheelchair users, supply of telemetry package and alarm devices. All these beaches will have a special accessibility sign.

We formulate a comprehensive national strategy for accessible tourism, integrating in the tourism education and training, the dimension of disability and accessibility of people with disabilities in tourism services and upgrading the websites of EOT.

We connect accessible tourism with volunteering, with the creation of a Volunteer Network to support and serve tourists with Disabilities, as well as with the training of groups of volunteers.

“Our initiatives and actions are part of the National Action Plan for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and in addition to the equal participation of all in the tourism chain, they aim at promoting Greece as an accessible tourism destination.”
