Borel: We condemn the illegal referendums in Ukraine – Violation of national sovereignty

“We commend the courage of the Ukrainians, who continue to oppose and resist the Russian invasion,” says Mr Borel.

The EU denounces the holding of illegal “referendums” and their falsified results, the EU High Representative Josep Borrell emphasized in his post on Twitter, noting that “this is another violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, amid systematic violations of of human rights”.

“We commend the courage of the Ukrainians, who continue to oppose and resist the Russian invasion,” concludes Mr Borel.

Soltz: We do not recognize referendums

The Federal Chancellor of Germany emphasized in his statement published today in the press that Berlin’s position regarding the occupied territories of Ukraine, where the pro-Russian authorities organized referendums in recent days on the annexation of four regions to Russia, will not change.

“We will not accept the results of these referendums, which are a fraud, and our support to Ukraine will continue unabated” Olaf Solz emphasized in his statement to the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung published in today’s issue.

The pro-Russian authorities announced yesterday the predominance of “yes” in the referendums in Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Lugansk, where referendums on the question of joining the Russian Federation have been held since Friday.

Referring to the contentious issue of arms deliveries to Ukraine, Mr Solz insisted that Kyiv would immediately receive Soviet-designed tanks and armored fighting vehicles (AVMs) from other NATO countries, the stockpiles of which would be replenished by Germany and others in the framework of the so-called circular exchange. He refrained from referring to Kiev’s pressing demand for the delivery of state-of-the-art German tanks.

“Germany is supporting Ukraine as much as it can,” but “at the same time, it is doing everything it can to prevent a direct conflict between NATO and Russia,” the chancellor told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung. He insisted on the fact that this is what the majority of Germans want.
