German Economy Minister Robert Habeck predicts a 0.4% GDP recession and 8% inflation next year, Bild reports in its paper published today.
The tabloid is citing the government’s so-called “autumn” forecasts due to be released on Wednesday (October 12).
These forecasts are more or less in line with those published on September 29 by five German institutes (DIW, IFO, IFW, IWH and RWI) in their autumn report: they predict a contraction of the GDP of Europe’s largest economy by 0.4% in 2023 after the 1.4% growth they expect to end the year with and inflation of 8.8% next year from 8.4% this year.
According to Bild, which is generally considered well-informed, Mr Habeck also forecasts a slight rise in the unemployment rate in 2023, to 5.4%, from 5.2% this year.
