Following an allegation of “serious misconduct” during the Conservative Party’s annual conference
THE British Prime Minister Liz Truss removed the undersecretary of trade from her government Connor Burnsfollowing a complaint against him of “serious misconduct” he committed during the Conservative Party’s annual conference.
A Downing Street spokesman said Burns had been asked to “step down, with immediate effect, from the government”.
“The prime minister took this measure as soon as she was informed of this complaint” and “all ministers should adopt a code of conduct” similar to what citizens expect of them, he added.
Downing Street did not specify what the “offense” is accused of Conor Burns. According to several British media outlets, the deputy minister behaved “inappropriately” at the party’s conference hosted this week in Birmingham, which was marked by heated arguments.
Liz Truss took over as Prime Minister on September 5, succeeding Boris Johnson who resigned, “wounded” by a series of scandals. Conor Burns, 50, was minister for Northern Ireland in the Johnson government. He told The Sun tabloid he would “cooperate fully with the investigation” and “looks forward to clearing his name”.
Burns was also struck off the Conservative Party caucus.
