Sweden has already announced that the first underwater inspections confirm the sabotage scenario.
The investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines is “on track” but is being complicated by the presence of old munitions on the bottom of the Baltic Sea, Denmark’s defense minister said.
“It is a zone characterized by the presence of ammunition – used or not – of the Second World War. There are many objects at the bottom of the sea, so it’s not easy,” Morten Bodskoff told reporters on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels.
“But the work continues and is on track,” he clarified.
Sweden has already announced that the first underwater inspections confirm the sabotage scenario.
“Together with Sweden and Germany, Denmark is conducting research which is progressing satisfactorily. Of course, whatever we find out will be made public,” added the Danish Defense Minister.
Russia has demanded to join the investigation into the spills that occurred in international waters, but has been rebuffed by both Copenhagen and Stockholm.
The Russian embassy in Copenhagen protested that “the reluctance of the Danish side to include representatives of Russia in the investigation hurts its credibility.”
For her part, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson suggested that Moscow conduct its own investigation on the ground.
On September 26, a massive leak occurred at four points in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 natural gas pipelines due to underwater explosions, according to several countries.
