Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, during his speech today at the European Union Summit, referred to the need to adopt a ceiling on the price of natural gas and to implement the reform of the electricity market.

The outgoing Italian prime minister opposed autonomous initiatives by countries with more fiscal space, because such an approach could have negative effects on the unity of Europe.

Draghi also advocated the approval of common European spending to deal with the phase of economic recession. “This is not a question of solidarity, but of protecting the internal market”, he characteristically underlined.

Finally, the Italian technocrat prime minister referred to the need to approve a strong European fund, aimed not only at investments, but also at containing prices.
