Fortunately the outgoing president of Brazil, Zaych Bolsonaro, he didn’t do it like Donald Trump. He may not have admitted his defeat but he did not question the election result that gives the victory to Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva. On the one hand, he copies the method of the former American president, and on the other hand, he seems to learn from his mistakes…

Within two minutes he broke a silence that lasted 44 hours after Sunday’s election with the “bad” tongues saying that the ever laissez-faire Bolsonaro remained holed up inside the country’s presidential palace, Palacio da Alvorada, angry, desperate and pensive. His appearance in front of the cameras was short-lived amid popular outrage over his anti-democratic stance.

“Our dreams are more alive than ever,” said Brazil’s outgoing president, the first in the country’s history to fail re-election. 58 million voters voted for him but he lost an election for the first time in his 34-year political career.

His difference from da Silva was small. The 67-year-old Bolsonaro collected 49.1% of the votes and his main rival and winner, the 77-year-old Rula, 50.9%. In short, it was the most polarized election in the country since 1985 when Brazil returned to democracy.

In the 120 seconds that lasted his first remarks, after his defeat two days ago, Bolsonaro forgot to admit that he had lost, repeated his party’s values of “religion, country, family and freedom” and pledged to continue fighting for order and the progress of Brazil. He never mentioned his opponent and has yet to call him to congratulate him.

Everyone was afraid that his reaction would resemble that of the former American president of the USA, donald trump, for whom he has publicly expressed his admiration while he himself questioned the reliability of his country’s electoral system with the only difference being that Bolsonaro did so pre-election and Trump mainly post-election.

On Tuesday night he emphasized that “as president and as a citizen I will continue to follow all the orders of the Constitution” while regarding the demonstrations that took place in the country he emphasized that these “were the result of the indignation and the feeling of injustice” of many of the his voters.

Immediately after the completion of the statements of the 67-year-old outgoing president of Brazil, his chief of staff took the floor, Ciro Nogueira who clarified that the procedures for the transfer of power to Lula will begin immediately. Analysts interpret Nogueira’s statement as Bolsonaro’s official acceptance of the election result. At the same time, however, they notice something else, discerning Bolsonaro’s anxiety to remain dominant.

Commenting on the silence he maintained for almost 48 hours but also on his statements in which he emphasized that “peaceful demonstrations are always welcome” distinguish a double game that looks like blackmail. On the one hand, they note that he is trying to maintain the anxiety about the political future of the country, by keeping silent, and on the other hand, by speaking, to still look powerful since he implies that he can control the “peaceful” demonstrations. His purpose, they emphasize, is to manage to secure, unofficially, an amnesty which will protect him from any prosecution against him when he hands over power and loses presidential immunity. Of course, there are not a few who judge that in the end the outgoing president of Brazil will be faced with accusations of spreading false news, anti-democratic attitude, corruption and also for the way he managed the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil which has killed around 700,000 people .

The polls in Brazil have spoken and so has its outgoing president who once declared that only God could remove him from his position. Today, for some it was God’s hand and for some it was through their own hand, voting, it’s just time for Brazil to get rid of its far-right president, Jaish Bolsonaro, who used to declare himself in favor of torture, who has telling a woman he wouldn’t rape her because she doesn’t deserve it, calling the coronavirus a cold and linking the COVID-19 vaccine to AIDS.
