Media mogul Rupert Murdoch in the United States, from the tabloid New York Post to the financial The Wall Street Journal and the Fox News channel, have turned against Donald Trump, who they blame for the failure of the Republican wave – and seek to stigmatize.
On the cover of this Thursday’s Post, below, the former president is introduced as the character of a popular children’s rhyme (Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall / Humpty Dumpty fell to the hard ground / And all the king’s men and horses / failed put it back together).
In the newspaper version, with the pun Trumpty Dumpty as the headline, “Don (who couldn’t build a wall) had a big fall – can all the men of the GOP put the party back together again?” Grand Old Party, GOP, is the acronym used to identify the Republican Party.
The headline text on the cover highlights that, after three elections, “Toxic Trump is the political equivalent of a can of Raid,” the insecticide. The previous cover, on Wednesday, was taken up by a photo of Florida’s re-elected governor Ron DeSantis and the wording “DeFuture”, the future.
In the editorial “Trump is the GOP’s biggest loser,” the WSJ also highlighted the defeats. “What will Democrats do when Trump isn’t around to lose elections?” citing defeated Trumpists in “clearly winnable states”.
On Fox News, Laura Ingraham and others focused on DeSantis for 2024 if the party wants to win, warning that voters may “conclude you’re putting your ego above good for the country” and look “elsewhere” for an answer.
Even Tucker Carlson eventually conceded: “The truth is, Trump has always been a mixed blessing. Downsides come with upsides, but he’s not the only cause.” He questioned the supposed Democratic control over the “electoral machinery”.
The coordinated action of Murdoch’s outlets, itself a news item, has been highlighted by Deadline, the New York Times and Insider.
‘FAKE NEWS’
Finally, Trump reacted, on his Truth Social network: “Despite having chosen so many winners, I have to put up with Fake News. For me, Fox News was always hopeless, but now they’re really gone. It’s a great opportunity for another one. media vehicle make a fortune”.
