Medvedev: With Republicans comes the ‘beginning of the end’ of US support for Ukraine

by

“The US always abandons its friends, and the Ukrainians will have the same fate,” Medvedev said in a Telegram post on Friday.

After the midterm elections, Republicans are set to take control of the US House of Representatives, signaling the ‘beginning of the end’ of America’s support for Ukraine, Dmitry Medvedev argued on Friday in a post on Telegram.

He said Republicans are committed to “more scrutiny” of US financial support for Ukraine.

“The issue of money for Ukraine is becoming toxic in the US. The MPs are demanding full audits of where the huge amount of money has gone,” the Russian official commented.

That would also apply to the “new tens of billions requested” by President Joe Biden, added Medvedev, who now serves as vice chairman of Russia’s Security Council.

There is no doubt that Washington will continue to allocate funds for military support to Ukraine as “part of the Russophobic consensus of the American elites”, the former Russian president observed. However, this will become increasingly difficult, he argued, adding that ordinary Americans will gradually see the “reality”.

“They were deceived once again. Huge funds were drawn from the US budget despite the economic recession and the fact that prices for everything are rising,” Medvedev commented.

Resentment will continue to grow until Congress ends U.S. support for Ukraine, he estimated, insisting that this is inevitable because “America has always abandoned its friends.”

Similar views were expressed earlier by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who said “the US is creating monsters” that are “out of control”, citing the Taliban and the al-Qaeda terrorist group as examples.

It is noted that the hard-right part of the House of Representatives Republicans will push to stop the funding of Ukraine, according to CNN. The news comes after Joe Biden called for the approval of a new financial aid amount 37 billion dollars.
