The White House was, this Saturday (19), the scene of the wedding of one of the granddaughters of the President of the United States, Joe Biden. Attorney Naomi Biden, 28, married Peter Neal, 25, a recent law graduate and staff member at the Georgetown University Law Center.

According to the Reuters news agency, 250 people were invited to the ceremony, which took place on the lawn of the official residence of the American Presidency. The press did not have access to the event.

“It has been a joy to watch Naomi grow, discover who she is and build such an amazing life for herself,” the President and First Lady Jill Biden said in a joint statement released after the ceremony.

“Now, we are very proud to see her choose Peter as her husband and are honored to welcome him into our family. We wish them days full of laughter and a love that grows deeper with each passing year,” they added. The current American president has been married to the first lady for 45 years.

Naomi Biden is the daughter of Hunter Biden, son of the American leader.

A luncheon for family members and the wedding reception took place in the White House dining room. An evening reception with dessert and dancing is scheduled for Saturday night. On Sunday, interestingly, Biden will turn 80.

Jill Biden’s communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, said the family would pay for the wedding, “just like other private events hosted by the family and in keeping with the traditions of previous White House wedding festivities.”

Naomi and Peter’s wedding is the 19th to take place at the US President’s official residence. According to the White House Historical Association, the tradition began in 1812, when Lucy Payne Washington, sister of First Lady Dolley Madison, married Supreme Court Justice Thomas Todd.

Grover Cleveland was the only American president to marry in the White House; he exchanged rings with Frances Folsom in 1886.
