Air defense has been mobilized… There is a drone attack,” the Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol said in a social media post.

Russian air defense downed at least two drones today over Sevastopol, Crimea – which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014 – it said governor Mikhail Razvozaev, urging residents to remain calm.

Sevastopol is the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Sin late October, Moscow accused Kyiv of attacking drones from the air and sea against the port of Sevastopol. In retaliation, it had temporarily suspended its participation in the Black Sea Grain Export Initiative.

“Air defense has been mobilized… There is a drone attack,” the Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol said in a social media post. “According to the first information, two UAVs have already been shot down. All our forces and services are on alert,” added Razvozaev and called on residents to remain calm.

The Crimean peninsula was one of the thrust points of Russian forces for the February 24 invasion of Ukraine. It has been attacked several times, but the most notable was in August, when a series of explosions destroyed warplanes at a Russian naval base.
