It was the first estimate of Ukrainian military casualties since late August, when the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said nearly 9,000 troops had died.
Ukraine’s armed forces count around 10-13,000 dead soldiers since the start of the Russian invasion, Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, told a Ukrainian television station on Thursday.
It was the first estimate of Ukrainian military casualties since late August, when the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said nearly 9,000 troops had died.
“We have official figures from the General Staff,” Podoliak told the Kanal 24 network, “the dead are between 10,000 and 13,000,” he claimed, adding that there are more wounded.
For his part, Oleksiy Arestovich – an adviser to President Zelensky – claimed in an interview on Wednesday that Russian losses in the war are seven times greater than those of the Ukrainians.
Last month, the head of the US Armed Forces General Staff, General Mark Milley, estimated that more than 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded in Ukraine, adding that the losses on the Ukrainian side are similar.
