Target attacks took place yesterday, Monday, two air bases a few kilometers away from the Russian capital and according to the Russian Ministry of Defense the attacks were carried out by two Ukrainian drones.

“The Kiev regime attempted to carry out strikes with Soviet drones on Diaghilev air base in Ryazan province and Engels base in Saratov province,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

At the same time, Kyiv has not claimed responsibility for the attacks, although Ukrainian officials express their satisfaction and speak with insinuations, which – if verified – then the war in Ukraine will enter a new, critical and perhaps even fatal phase.

“The Earth is round – a discovery made by Galileo. Astronomy was not studied in the Kremlin. Otherwise, they would have known: If something is launched into the airspace of other states, sooner or later unknown flying objects will return to the starting point,” the adviser stressed of the Ukrainian president, Mykhailo Podoliak.

From the explosions, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, three soldiers lost their lives, four others were injured, while two aircraft were slightly damaged.

Russia responded by launching a new wave of missile attacks against central and southeastern Ukraine, hitting homes and buildings, killing at least three civilians and disrupting power and water supplies mainly in Odesa. According to Kyiv, 60 of the total of 70 missiles launched from Moscow were shot down, while work is underway to restore the energy infrastructure.

At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin was driving to the Kerch Bridge that connects the annexed Crimean peninsula with Russia.

Taking car rides he was informed about the ongoing damage restoration work. It has been almost two months since the October explosion that destroyed part of the bridge – pride of Vladimir Putin and damaged the prestige of the Russian president. At the time, Moscow responded with a barrage of missile attacks, choosing a new strategy after launching a new – parallel war – against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Yesterday was the eighth round of Russian missile attacks and once again 40% of the Kyiv region was left without electricity while Odesa is facing the most problems since it has no water.

On Monday, air raid sirens sounded across the country. Residents of the Ukrainian capital once again returned to shelters, checking their mobile phones for any warnings. Explosions occurred in Cherkassy, Krivi Rykh and Odesa. Much of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was already destroyed after the Russian attacks, and millions of Ukrainian citizens have been living in the cold and darkness for weeks. Kyiv was expecting a new round of strikes.

Yesterday’s attacks had some differences from previous ones. This time the infrastructure damage was less and, according to Ukrainian officials, kamikaze drones were not used.

The war in Ukraine is becoming more complex.

Moscow openly accuses Ukraine of an attack on its territory and indeed so many kilometers away from the Ukrainian border.

At the same time, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, reiterates that the US and NATO stance creates a risk of armed, direct, conflict.

French President Emmanuel Macron is suggesting that Moscow receive security guarantees if it ends the war. Washington questions the intentions of Moscow, which demands the recognition of the new territories it has annexed, while Kyiv calls for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territories and a cessation of hostilities in order to sit at the dialogue table.
