Investigations at the headquarters of the McKinsey company and the “Renaissance” party on the occasion of the case of the controversial intervention of consulting companies in the election campaigns of the French president in 2017 and 2022
Investigations were carried out on Tuesday at the headquarters of the McKinsey company and Emmanuel Macron’s “Renaissance” party, the financial prosecutor’s office announced today, regarding the case of the controversial intervention of consulting companies in the French president’s 2017 and 2022 election campaigns.
The company confirmed the raid on its Paris offices, saying it was “cooperating fully with the authorities”.
The investigations were carried out in the context of the two preliminaries that began in October. One of these preliminaries concerns the interference of consulting firms in election campaigns and the second concerns the excessive assignment of projects by the state to such firms.
“It is normal for the judiciary to investigate freely and independently to shed light on this matter,” Renaissance spokesman Loic Senior told AFP, clarifying that the party is at the judges’ disposal to provide “any useful evidence” for the election campaigns.
A Senate report, released during the election campaign last spring, sparked intense controversy over the awarding of projects to companies. The opposition called for an investigation into possible favoritism on the part of the ruling majority in favor of McKinsey. The report also spoke of possible tax violations by McKinsey’s French subsidiaries, which allowed them to pay no corporate tax from 2011 to 2020.
A first investigation had already been carried out at the company’s headquarters in France on May 24, as part of a preliminary investigation into possible money laundering.
